XPlanatory Story

From Academic Research to Industrial Innovation

The journey began in 2013, when Nico Migenda and Marvin Schöne first met as electrical engineering students. Following their degrees, they continued to collaborate as research assistants at the Center for Applied Data Science, where they gained deep insights into the challenges facing regional manufacturing companies.

Solving Real-World Pain Points

Through their work with major industrial partners, the founders identified a recurring hurdle: inefficient information-gathering.

  • Marvin Schöne developed a digital worker assistance system for Miele & Cie. KG to reduce employee workloads and is currently streamlining report generation for GEA Westfalia Separator Group GmbH.
  • Nico Migenda worked with Beckhoff GmbH & Co. KG on predictive maintenance, where he realized that a solid information foundation is the absolute key to rapid troubleshooting.

Recognizing this market gap, the two turned their research into a university spin-off. Nico spearheaded the validation process through the VIP4PAPS project, focusing on backend architecture and language model integration.

Growing the Team

The team expanded to bridge the gap between technical expertise and business strategy:

    • Marvin Niederhaus: Bringing outstanding computer science skills to the team, Marvin joined the project following a successful collaboration with Nico during their bachelor’s studies. His involvement underscores our commitment to fostering early-career research.
  • Liesa Oppenhausen: In early 2024, Liesa joined the team through our mentor network. With her background in business administration and taxation, she brings a vital commercial perspective to our technical foundation, facilitating the interdisciplinary spirit of HSBI.

We are proud to combine academic excellence with practical application, turning complex research into solutions that empower the manufacturing industry.
